I'm tired. And I have a room for rent. So, if you know someone who needs a room in the city, or you yourself need a room in the city, let me know. Our flat is really nice. So is our neighborhood. We're mean as hell, but don't let that stop you...

Things are getting crazy here. My laptop has taken up residence in San Jose, leaving me with no computer (aside from a server) at home. Nick is getting married. The girl who lives here is moving to Colorado. And I have to work a whole damn lot over the next two weeks. Just when I was getting a little bored....

Kathy and I saw the M. Doughty show at the GAMH the other night. It was strange to see him up there alone, even thought it wasn't the first solo show I've seen him do. The whole Soul Coughing thing just brings up so much past for me. Ah, life before I had this one. Anyway, time for another movie and more work!

The Mark Eitzel show on Saturday night was good. He threw a tantrum on stage, but then recovered. The two acts that openned for him were both good as well, especially Tim Easton.

The girl who lives here and I went to Stern Grove for the Michelle Shocked concert that kicked off this year's Stern Grove Music Feastival. It was a great show, but way too hot outdoors. If I ever go again, I'll grab a spot in the shade.

It seems that Leonard and Sumana aren't ordering the correct things at Peter's Cafe. Breakfast is a delightful meal there once you figure out that you must order either the Swedish pancakes, or the Apple Baby German pancake. And they are best eaten at 2 or 3 am.

There was another burlesque show at the Make Out Room tonight. The girl who lives here made her singing debut. The first set was quite entertaining, and we left after that. I did miss the Boing Boing Boing Boy doing his pogo stick strip tease, as well as Kelly's debut strip tease, but the crowd was getting obnoxiously large, and I was tired.

This weekend I accomplished two things that I had been wanting to do since I moved into this flat. I got a hanging plant for my room and hung it. And I bought a shelving unit for the colo in the kitchen and Nick and I assembled it and moved all the computers and stuff onto it. With this computer readjustment, I also finished the cat5 cable I'd strung up, allowing us to get the old cable off the floor. This new arangement for the computers gives me three things: less clutter, the kitchen door closes easily, and I can get to the laundry room windows to open them now (which creates a nice breeze through the kitchen.) The only annoying thing was that the KVM I just bought doesn't work. Now I have to go kick some ass.

I finally strung up the cat 5 cable from the laundry room to the office. While I was in the process of trying to swap out the new cable for the old cable, I realized my server was *really* hot. Scorching. The fan on the power supply had gone south. The hard drive on this machine, gibson, sits directly under the power supply. I plunked down on the floor and started taring and moving data off the box. I forgot how slow a Pentium 166 is. These days I'm used to taring stuff up on dual P3 850s or better.

So I turned off gibson as soon as the vital data was off of it, and let it cool down for a while. I searched for my extra power supply, which I can't find (for all I know, it's running zork or something) and then I decided to take two broken machines and make one working one. Yay hardware! Since my desktop box was acting up a week ago, I had just turned it off, and it has been sitting under my desk doing nothing. When I powered it up, martini asserted that it was a happy box. So, plunk, in went gibson's hard drive and dual nic. Voila. I guess the only difference between a gibson and a martini is the garnish. So now I have a server with about 3 onions and an 2 olives.

Of course, keeping with the theme of broken hardware, another port on Nick's switch has decided that it wants a vacation and won't move any more packets. And the cat 5 cable that I strung up has some issues. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to fix it. For now, the cable on the floor will have to do.

Oh, and I finally got the chance to put all of my books in catagorical order. While I was booting boxes and stuff. La La. What a productive evening. I also cleaned my room. Really cleaned. Dusted and everything. Of course the rest of the house will have to remain a dirty mess until tomorrow.

I saw Angela for what will be the last time for a long time today. She's graduating from med school on the 14th, and moving to Florida to do her residency on the 16th. Kyra & Care's wedding reception was nice. I got to see Z and Stephanie as well as Angela. It's funny to think that Kyra and Care are married after having been together for at least 9 years... living together for 7 of those. Most of the people I know who've been married have divorced way before they hit 9 years. I need to visit them more this next year, as they'll move away when Kyra gets a job.

Seems like everyone is moving away: Mo and Rachael are in LA, Angela to Florida, not to mention the ones that went to NYC. I had a thought the other day that I should go live in Boston for awhile.... but I don't think I can commit to living in snow. It's just so cold, and it sucks to shovel it.
